5 Talks to Inspire | Design

Design is continually changing and evolving so it is good to stay fresh and inspired. In this playlist of OFFSET Talks, some of the world’s greatest designers share their creative process and insight.  So sit back, relax and get ready to watch to some of our favourite designers, who have joined us at OFFSET Dublin over the last few years talk shop. Kicking off with the design legend Milton Glaser, the man behind the I Heart NY Logo and our most watched OFFSET video.

1. Pony | The Nexus of Tomorrow

Pony Ltd. is a graphic design studio founded at the beginning of the 21st century. Work at the studio ranges from popular culture to the avant-garde, from high-brow to low-brow, creating for print, screen, three dimensions and performance. This talk from 2012 was a showstopper to say the least with a very special appearance from the Queen of Ireland.

2. Paula Scher | Maximalism & Minimalism

In the 1990s, Paula Scher became the first female partner in an era-defining creative agency, Pentagram. Not only is she one of the most respected designers in the US, with many of her images now part of the American vernacular, she has a reputation for being both an inspirational educator and a deep thinker about graphic design. Scher has worked with Coca-Cola, The New York Philharmonic, The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and The Daily Show.

3. Erik Kessels | Humour is the Best Sauce

Wonderfully quirky, inventive and producing work that is imbued with a healthy appreciation of satire, KesselsKramer is one of the Netherlands most sought after agencies. Located in Amsterdam, but also with a new office/shop/exhibition space in London, the agency has helped some of the biggest brands on the planet find new ways to tell their stories, including Nike, Diesel, Oxfam and the world’s worst hostel, The Hans Brinker Budget Hotel.

4. Kate Moross | DIY Philosophy

The incredibly funny and talented Kate Moross joined us on stage in 2013. Croaked- up and all, she was passionate, enthusiastic and brilliant. Her talk was a paean to DIY philosophy applied to design. A philosophy which has taken her far away from her initial rise as an illustrator. With top clients and an eclectic portfolio we think Kate is one of a kind.

5. Detail | Size Matters

Clear messages, interactive design and identity – the output from Detail graphic design studio has become part of Dublin’s self image. They’ve designed the wayfaring systems for Dublin City Council Leisure centres, developed the branding for CRANN, Trinity College Dublin’s advanced nanoscience laboratory, and defined the identity for Father Colin’s Park, Ireland’s first sustainable public green. Their work has brought a clarity of purpose to the city, and it’s fitting that their most notable collaboration has been with an institution that sits between technology and art – the Science Gallery.
