Where’s Warhol? | Book Review

Where's Warhol?

It’s no secret that we’re fans of illustrator Andrew Rae here at OFFSET. We’ve even been lucky enough to have him on our main stage in Dublin and at our 2014 Limerick event. In this new publication from Laurence King, Andrew is joined by art historian, Catherine Ingram, to bring us back in time with Pop Art legend, Andy Warhol.

Just like in the old favourite, Where’s Wally?, Where’s Warhol? challenges readers to find the iconic artist among the detailed scenes from some of the most momentous events in art history.

Where's Warhol?

Through the 40 pages Warhol is hidden in vibrant and busy scenes including Studio 54, The Sistine Chapel, The Bauhaus and even with Yves Klein at the cleverly blue-floored Kodokan Judo Institute.

There are some more familiar faces hidden in the bright and humourous spectacles across the double page spreads. You can have fun spotting famous faces ranging from Elton John to Michelangelo and Ginger Rogers to Frida Kahlo.

At the back of the book you find pages dissecting the main tableaux along with more details on the extra hidden characters, a mini essay and the narratives that connect them. We find out that each character has in fact visited the scene they have been in portrayed in. From Vladimir Putin at the Kodokan, to Michael Jackson at Studio 54 and Pink Floyd in Pompeii.

Where's Warhol?

Andrew’s style is perfect for Where’s Warhol? Paired with Catherine Ingram’s essays, this visually engaging, fun and educational book is a must have guide to the history of art for both adults and children alike.
